Are fast fashion brands killing off genuinely talented designers?

Yep she's even richer. Kim Kardashian-West has won $2.7m (£2.1m) in damages after accusing Missguided USA of ripping off her outfits.

Kardashian West’s lawsuit said Missguided USA does not “merely replicate the looks of these celebrities” but “systematically uses the names and image” of stars to promote its website.
Newly released court documents state that the brand failed to defend itself and a default judgement was made, awarding the media mogul £2.1m in damages as well as about £47,000 in legal fees.

A ruling delivered at the California Central District Court by Judge Virginia A Phillips added Missguided USA is banned from using Kardashian West’s “trademarks in connection with the sale, marketing or distribution of its products”

In February, the star spoke out against fast fashion companies who she claimed ripped off the hard work and original ideas of "true designers".

She's known for wearing clothes by some of the highest profile designers in the world - including her husband Kanye West.
And this raises the question;

Is the financial power of fast fashion brands swallowing up competition from genuine & unique independents.

Its so obvious styles, patterns and combinations are regurgitated in fast fashion to ensure fresh items are uploaded daily - satisfying the needs of inpatient 21st century consumers . In an age of contact-less payments, 5G & same day delivery , daily stock updates are almost imperative. Designers can't keep up with such high demands.

True creative guile and thoroughness to create something innovative and unique takes time. Therefore on a daily basis these hugely successful brands do rip-off ideas left-right and centre to keep up with customer demands.

As consumers we should maybe stop buying a new outfit every weekend to impress our friends , save up , spend a bit more money, search around (you more than likely buy from the big brands because they're the ones who reach out to you via direct marketing) buy something unique and support truly talented designers. Purchase from independents locally & internationally to keep true creativity alive.
